Oregon DEQ Mercury WQMP-TMDL

In 2019 the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) updated it's Water Quality Management Plan (WQMP) regarding the control of Mercury contamination within the Willamette River basin.  As part of this process the Multnomah Channel was identified as water quality impaired for Methylmercury, as such a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) was determined for the Multnomah Channel.  The Multnomah Channel serves as the eastern boundary of the SDIC.

There are no known point sources of Mercury within the SDIC, however as with all regions of the globe the lands within the SDIC are subseptale to air deposition of Mercury.  This Mercury can than be transferred to the Multnomah Channel through soil erosion.

The SDIC encourages all members of the community to use Best Management Practices (BMP's)to control erosion.  The following links provide background on the Revised Oregon DEQ Mercury Water Quality Management Plan as well as some resources regarding BMP's.
